Brownice Vegan Ice Cream @ Singapore | The Healthy Ice Cream Alternative

Brownice Vegan Ice Cream

When I first became vegan a year ago, I thought I’d be giving up all the delicious desserts I ever lived by. Saying goodbye to cakes, pies, chocolates and most of all ice creams. Never would I imagine that ice cream could be made with non-dairy milk. It wasn’t long till I was introduced to Brownice, a Vegan Ice Cream parlor in Singapore that does organic and dairy-free frozen treats. It was the best day of my life!

Brownice ice cream is made with organic brown rice milk, fruits and all natural flavours. The idea of making ice cream from non-dairy milk never crossed my mind before. The ice cream itself is sweet, creamy and taste just like any regular dairy ice cream. In fact the taste and texture is so similar that no would know the difference if they weren’t told otherwise.

This alternative is not only great for vegans but also those who are lactose intolerant, allergic to soy or those watching their weight. At Brownice you can eat up with a clean conscience and without the guilt. It is a win-win!

The flavors here change depending on the season (they keep the best sellers and rotate the others) and they have quite a range. If you can’t decide what to have… well, just get everything! Thats what I did when I was there for the first time!  3 scoops will only set you back by S$7! And trust me, it is worth every dollar! My favorite flavor here would be the Gula Melaka Salted Caramel.  It is beautifully creamy and smooth, managing to be light and luscious.

Brownice also does waffles, brownies and ice cream if regular ice cream isn’t enough to satisfy you. I have not tried the waffles but I’ve seen others order it, and it does look delectable. However, I got to try the Chocolate Mud Pie and it was heavenly. The bottom layer is made of smooth french and hazelnut chocolate ice cream and topped with chocolate chip ganache. Talk about guilty pleasure!

Brownice now has a second branch in Katong and it offers a huge range of thin crust vegan pizzas, classic pastas and of course ice cream. I only found out about this branch one night while dinning at Loving Hut Joo Chiat. I knew about the Brownice Sin Ming Centre Branch but didn’t know that the had a new branch that serves authentic Italian food. Knowing this, I of course had to pay a visit and try their pizzas and pastas. Here is a look at their menu.

After checking out the menu, my partner ordered the BBQ Chicken Pizza. The pizza is generously covered with toppings, a mix of BBQ and cheese sauce, and at the end of the slice you crunch into the crispy crust… yumm!

I got their Mac n Cheese. There are other things I would have tried but it is Mac n Cheese. I love Mac n Cheese, I can’t go to a restaurant know they have Mac n Cheese and not order it. When I ordered it the waitress told me that they are planning to remove this item, so she wasn’t sure if they had the ingredients to make it in the kitchen. I was a tad bit disappointed to hear that. She politely asked me to pick another dish in case they don’t have it while she confirms. Turns out that they are able to cook it, and the chef that made it was Hungry Ang Mo, a vegan food blogger in Singapore. What a honour!

The Mac n Cheese was delicious. It got a creamy mustard based sauce, a chewy al dente penne and garnished with some greens and crushed almonds. I couldn’t help wonder why they are removing this item from the menu. Mac n Cheese is such a classic dish loved by all ages. I had to seized every opportunity to talk to the owners and convinced them not to remove the item. I even shared my Mac n Cheese sauce recipe with them in hopes that they keep the item. I haven’t been back since then, I hope they still serve this dish. I just love Mac n Cheese.

Chef's Special Mac n CheeseBrownice has two branches one on Sin Ming Road and the other on East Coast Road.
