It’s no secret that Singapore is an expensive city to be a tourist — especially by Southeast Asia standards. But eating cheap is not impossible. Singapore is blessed with hawker centres that offer cheap food and fortunately most hawker centre will have at least one or two vegetarian/vegan stalls!
During my last visit to Singapore, I was able to find this cheap and cheerful vegetarian/vegan food stall in the Albert Centre on Queens Street, Bugis. A feed from this stall starts at SG$2.50 for a meal consisting of rice and 3 dishes of your choice. Their shelf consists of at least 10 different dishes to choose from. They have a large selection of food including a variety of stir fried vegetables, processed veg-meats and curries which you can pair with a choice of white rice, brown rice and/or rice vermicelli/bee hoon.
There’s always quite a long queue here during peak lunch and dinner hours. While service is relatively quick, I’d recommend coming here a tad bit early to beat the crowd.
Today I ordered potato curry, a serving of stir-fried veggies and a serving of soy bitter gourd. Overall the food is very delicious and portions are reasonable. The flavours are strong and may be slightly greasy, depending on the sides you ordered.
